I tried out 1Password and loved it. Now I want to add my family, but I'm not sure how to do it. Should they create family accounts and the receive an invitation from me, or is a family a single account? Also, what would happen if they first created an account? And does each of our profiles behave as a single account or is there a shared password and personal vaults?

    Hi,

you must buy 1P Families. Then you can invite your Family. All of your Members get an own 1P Account then with an own Personal Vault.
You can create Shared Vaults and invite Members to it.

No, they would not create an account before you invite them to your family via an email link. Their account will be created as part of accepting your invite.

is a family a single account?

No, it's a collection of accounts just as a family is a collection of people. :)

Also, what would happen if they first created an account?

They would have an account, and that account would be billed separately, resulting in duplicate charges.

And does each of our profiles behave as a single account or is there a shared password and personal vaults?

Yes, you each would have separate accounts and a Personal (non-shared vault), the family would share a vault used to share items between all family members.

I hope the links help solve any questions. Let me know how it goes!

The video you show in this thread looks nothing like when I sign on at your website (my.1password.com). I have a family plan but there's no admin console. How do I fix this, especially if I want to make someone else a admin as well (as per your video).
Another question: Do your apps have a password generator (like Dashlane)? It seems the only time it can generate is for a new site but if you need to to change a password or create a new one from scratch there's no simple way to do it.

    @lindapassword:

Indeed, that YouTube video is a few years old now, and a lot of things have changed in our website since then. If all you want to do it make an existing user a Family Organizer, you can quickly do it this way:

    1. Sign in to your 1Password account in a browser.
    2. Click People in the sidebar.
    3. Click the name of the family member.
    4. Click on Family Organizer in the left column:

Yes, you can use the password generator anytime you want in the main 1Password desktop app, in 1Password mini, or in any 1Password browser extension. This tutorial shows you how to change your existing passwords anytime, not just for a new site.
