Separate Vaults for Work/Home

I can only "uncheck" vaults in settings, but the personal vault is still located on my work laptop.

I'm not sure I understand how this is practically different from the previous setup. Wouldn't both vaults be accessible in your Dropbox account from either computer previously? Would you mind elaborating on what problem it is that you're trying to solve here? It would seem from a security perspective there is minimal if any difference... someone who would have the ability to go into 1Password on your work laptop and check the box to enable the home vault would've also been able to go into Dropbox's settings on that same laptop and sync the home vault over?

The supported solution for true separation would be to have two separate 1Password accounts: one for work, and one for home. Both accounts could be part of the same membership if desired so long as you use a different email address for each. Having them as part of the same membership would require a membership that supports multiple accounts (i.e. 1Password Families, 1Password Teams, or 1Password Business). If you went that route you'd use the built-in Private/Personal vault as your 'home' vault, and then use a shared vault for your work items. You could then invite your work email to join your membership as a guest with access to only the shared work vault: https://support.1password.com/guests/

Let me try to explain further. I have a personal Dropbox account in which a shared folder was created. That folder is shared with my work Dropbox account.

That would not be a path that I'd recommend, though it is indeed available if you decide that is what will work for you in this case. One of the main reasons we don't recommend this is that it can end up causing confusion with the Master Password because of the way the 1Password apps unlock.

Both accounts would be part of the same membership — I'm not suggesting an entirely separate / full price situation. If you decide to go the standalone route you can find that option in 1Password > Preferences > Advanced, labeled "allow creation of vaults outside 1Password accounts." Again this is not a direction that we would recommend. It is an 'advanced' preference for a reason. :) I'd strongly suggest considering the recommended route, which would be multiple accounts within the same membership. I'm sorry but I think you've got it backwards. You'd need to sign into your account to activate your software. So in this case, if you were going to go the route you're proposing (which again is not recommended) — you'd store your work data in your account and your home data in a standalone vault. Then you'd only enable standalone vaults and sync the home vault on the home devices.

If you mean if 1Password 7 also supports vaults synced via Dropbox, then yes :+1:
