Can I let 1Password auto-fill in "Apps" that wrap a browser?

For convenience I have created "Apps" for most of the websites that I use a lot, using tools like these:

Is it possible to let 1Password auto-fill in these "Apps" (webpages) as well? How?

OS Version: macOS

    Hi @XIII!

I don't think this is possible: 1Password can only fill credentials on websites through the browser extension. If you transform a website into a separate app, 1Password won't be able to work within the browser anymore.

    Ah, too bad.

I'll have to continue my way less secure Keyboard Maestro macros (that invoke 1Password and copy/paste credentials) then...

It has been a long time since I looked into / used "SSBs" (single site browsers), but as I recall both Chrome and Firefox used to offer options for doing this. If those SSBs are still available / being updated, and they support Chrome / Firefox extensions, it may be possible to install 1Password X inside on. It would not be possible to use the companion extension, as we wouldn't have code signatures for the SSB in 1Password for Mac, but 1Password X is a possibility.

Hm. Did not consider those. Thanks for mentioning this.

Let us know how it goes if you decide to give this a try @XIII :+1: :)

I tried it in Firefox, using these instructions: https://www.maketecheasier.com/enable-site-specific-browser-firefox/

Unfortunately 1Password does not recognise the site (I tried https://fastmail.com) in SSB mode and does not autofill, so this failed.

I don't want Google software on my systems, so I won't try Chrome.

Oh, you suggested 1Password X; I tried the regular Firefox extension...

  • The companion extension definitely isn't going to work due to code signatures, however 1Password X may. :)

  • @XIII,

Honestly, macOS 11 has Password Autofill. I'd get on some of those devs to start supporting Associated Domains in their apps so that Password Autofill is given direct context and you won't have to search for your logins.

And it does support third-party password managers, like 1Password! :)

Two things I don’t understand though:

    1. How can these wrapper Apps tag text fields in a web page?
    2. How can these third-party Apps associate a domain if they don’t have access to the server?

(I guess problem 2 is way harder than problem 1)
