Newbie Question

What I would like to know is this, I use different passwords for all of my logins, do I need to change all of them individually before using generated passwords from the program ? Say, I want to generate a strong password from the program on a banking site, do I just go to the site, go to the change password and then generate one from 1Pass ?

If you are already using different passwords for every sie, you are already off to a great start. :)

If you would like to change a password on a site to a generated password, it is probably easiest to do so on your Mac.

Here is the guide for changing a password using the 1Password browser extension for Mac:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/change_password.html

The short version is that you need to make both 1Password and the website aware of the change. Think of it like changing your lock and giving your roommate a copy of the new key. :)

On iOS the process is not as smooth since there is not a way to generate a password in 1Password's built-in browser on iOS at this time. However, please let me know if you didn't end up installing 1Password on your iMac. I can give specific instructions for iOS as well.

I will not be using 1Password for my Mac yet, but will be using it for my iPad/Iphone, so instructions for IOS would be preferrable.

The way I did it just last night was to create a new Login item for the site with a generated password. That way I had access to both the old/existing password and new/generated password. I visited the site and logged in with the "old" Login item and then changed the password to the one I had generated.

Once I confirmed that everything was working well by logging out of the site and logging in with the new Login item, I deleted the old Login item. Just to be safe you might want to hang on to the old Login item for a little while. :)
