Sorry to bump this topic, but since it seems that there is no interest in implementing this very important security feature into 1Password 4, I had to figure out my own method of ensuring the security of my 1PW keychain.
If you're using the super awesome OS X macro utility Keyboard Maestro, you can create a macro that will detect when you launch 1Password, and then automatically Quits the app after a specified interval of time. It works great (although it would be nice if 1PW itself had a simple checkbox & time interval preference to do this).
Here's an example of my own Keyboard Maestro macro:
