Feature request: Allow partial and case-insensitive searches of passwords

Options

Periodically I like to check how many times I've used a character string as part of a password, and for those checks it would be useful if a search returned all matching password strings regardless of case, and also returned partial matches. If you didn't want to enable this by default, maybe these could be allowed as options in Preferences?

Thanks for considering.

    Hi, tnm!

That's an interesting idea. Generally, case-sensitivity is such a vital part of password matching that it may have affected the original design of this feature.

You can search for partial and case-insensitive strings in the other fields, though, so it may be something we can consider in a future release.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

For your security, we do not cache plain-text passwords in memory; we cache them in hashed format only. This is why we cannot do partial matches when we search for passwords; we'll find complete matches only.

All this is going to improve in 1Password 4, where searching is a lot faster and we do not need to cache anything.

The facts are even better than my supposition. Thanks, Stefan!
